McGuff Ropes In Elite Class

By Jeff Rapp, November 16th, 2018

One reason why Kevin McGuff was hired away from Washington in 2013 was because of his reputation as a topnotch recruiter.

He was the top salesman for Muffet McGraw as an assistant at Notre Dame and consistently pulled in difference-making players in his time as a head coach at Xavier (2002-11) and UW (2011-13).

On Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, McGuff announced the signing of another star-studded recruiting class as five players inked letters-of-intent to join The Ohio State University for the 2019-20 season.

The five-member class includes five-star recruits Kierstan Bell, Kaelynn Satterfield, Jacy Sheldon and Ricki Harris as well as Aixa Wone of Pamplona, Spain – one of the top international recruits headed to the United States.

“I am extremely excited about our signing class and the future of our program,” said McGuff. “All five have the skill and athleticism to positively impact our basketball system. More importantly they are high character individuals who will be terrific representatives of The Ohio State University.”

The Ohio State class is ranked No. 3 in the country by ESPN. Bell is the two-time reigning Ms. Basketball in the state of Ohio. Harris is an explosive point guard who has been named to the 2019 Naismith High School Girls’ Watch List. Sheldon was the runner-up to Bell last year for Ohio’s Ms. Basketball after averaging a school-record 26.3 points per game.

Meanwhile, Satterfield led Christ the King to a No. 1 national ranking last season and individually, she finished the year ranked No. 10 in the final ESPNW 25 Power Rankings. Wone has been a fixture in the junior Spanish National Team program and recently signed on to play as an amateur with an FC Barcelona club team.

The university released bios on all five signees. They follow:
